SANAA - Social Awareness Network for Activism through Art

SANAA is a multi-racial organization that promotes the expression of social justice concerns through the use of art in a community-based space. We seek to provide a venue for a network of individuals who care about the world, art, and activism. This social awareness network will allow people of color and their allies to come together on one accord and address the issues that those who are underprivileged and underrepresented face. We hold weekly and bi-weekly art/social justice workshops and year long community advocacy and revitalization projects at Manual Arts High School and Compton YouthBuild in South LA. Our students are given the resources and the space through critical discussions on race, class and gender that happen in conjunction with the arts through spoken word, graffiti art, photography, film, literature, dance, music and hip-hop workshops. Through SANAA UCLA students and South LA high school students come together to express concerns regarding cultural divides and to heal and work towards a more just world where the human race comes together to face these inequality.
