Sister2Sister
Sister2Sister is an organization that has transpired after a cohort of 20 first-year Black womxn at UCLA took the course, Education 98- The Birth of Renaissance. Four dynamic Black female professionals: Dr. Jonli Tunstall, PhD., and Mrs. Samarah Blackmon, MA. Ms. Maisha Beasley, MA., and Ms. Michelle Smith, MA., sought to address the critical needs Black womxn face throughout their educational experience. This class is designed to provide a safe space for Afrikan American womxn across the diaspora, enabling a more enriched college experience at a HWI (historically white institution) by providing a space where impactful conversations, interactions, and relationships can be developed with other Black students, faculty, and staff members. The Sister2Sister wants to continue our legacy by continuing to strengthening the bond of womxn who have already taken this course by providing them with continued networking opportunities and connection. The organization seeks to formalize the funneling of Afrikan American Womxn into the Sister2Sister Institute. As part of this legacy the Sister2Sister course wants to become an institution that funnels more Afrikan Womxn through the course and more specifically through UCLA as a whole. Mentorship is a key method for sustaining our legacy, which will ultimately develop a pipeline for Afrikan Womxn at UCLA.
