The Women's Reproductive Health Research and Awareness Club
The Women's Reproductive Research Program was developed in 2013 to support basic science and clinical research regarding reproductive and metabolic problems related to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and other androgen-related diseases. Since research support for this area of women’s healthcare is so limited, our program was created to improve the understanding and healthcare of women with these disorders, and to support research that provides women with PCOS, and other androgen-related diseases, the highest level of care and quality of life. The Women’s Reproductive Health Research Program is committed to providing opportunities for students and young investigators to work within this exciting scientific and medical environment. Student participants are given the opportunity to develop their skills, knowledge, and abilities in the fields of reproductive medicine and clinical research. The team consists of highly-motivated undergraduate and pre-medical students at UCLA working under the guidance of Daniel Dumesic, MD and Gregorio Chazenbalk, PhD. Since its inception, the program has been highly successful, with multiple research projects being presented at international meetings and published in peer-reviewed journals by the integrated team of senior scientists, clinicians, and students. Through this organization, we hope to raise awareness about the importance of women's reproductive health for our UCLA student body and the community, as well as to share our knowledge of advancements currently being made in the field of OB/GYN. In addition, we hope to raise funds to support the program.
