Undergraduate Palliative Care at UCLA

The purpose of Undergraduate Palliative Care at the University of California, Los Angeles is to expose university undergraduates with an interest in medicine to the field of palliative care. Using multidisciplinary approach, palliative care focuses on providing relief for patients suffering from serious illness and seeks to improve the quality of life for both the patient and his or her family. As a confluence of many specialities, palliative care provides comprehensive and valuable experience in the medical field for students contemplating careers in medicine. The University of California, Los Angeles chapter seeks to achieve its purpose by: 1. Providing first-hand medical experience for UCLA undergraduates through immersive physician shadowing opportunities through the UCLA Palliative Care Department and other approved bodies. 2. Educating UCLA undergraduates through on-campus lectures given by a variety of medical professionals within the UCLA Palliative Care Department (physicians, fellows, residents, pharmacists, nurses, social workers, etc.) and additional off-campus lectures and physician talks for intended medical students and residents.
