Encountering Autism
Encountering Autism envisions creating “a space for everyone.” By partnering with other organizations, we strive to create opportunities for young adults on the Autism Spectrum to connect with neurotypical peers through one-on-one social events in order to provide practice and models of independence and social skills in a fun and accepting environment. In addition to creating personal interactions at organized social events, Encountering Autism will host educational panels made up of those with Autism and those in the field of Autism research, programs, and education as well as structured presentations where members of our group will go into other on-campus organizations to provide basic knowledge of disability and tools to enhance positive social interaction with those with disability. Through these events and programs, Encountering Autism works to destigmatize common beliefs of disability, specifically Autism, in order to create an accepting and comfortable space for everyone.
