Psychology Interdisciplinary Events
Psychology Interdisciplinary Events is comprised of a group of graduate students, primarily from the Psychology Department, who organize interdisciplinary events for the general public by working with graduate students from other departments. In May of 2012, under our previous name of Psychology and Film, we put on a very successful panel discussion entitled "Psychology on the Big Screen", with filmmakers and psychologists coming together to talk about the connections between the two fields, with a focus on how mental illness is depicted in film. In May of 2013, we shifted away from the specific intersection of Psychology and Film, and started looking for other equally fascinating junctures. Since, we have organized events discussing Psychology and Music, with a panel discussing the relation between music and the human mind in May 2013; mens rea---the component of criminal law requiring criminal intent---with speakers from psychology and law backgrounds in May 2014; an intriguing panel discussion of computer science and psychology about metal minds and the development and possibility of true artificial intelligence in May 2015; and an insightful discussion on psychology, politics, and gender last Spring. This Spring we will focus on a new and exciting intersection to explore.
