Philosophy Club at UCLA

Sometimes you feel as if you've got it all figured out. Other times you feel lost and bewildered. Or perhaps you're just in between and need something to work with. No matter how out-of-this-world your ideas are, the philosophy club is the place for your inner philosopher to manifest in all its glory! Join us and speak your mind and share ideas in an open, friendly environment. ACTIVITIES Aside from our regular discussion meetings, we host quarterly speaking events for graduate students and philosophically themed movie nights. Group dinners are also part of our weekly meetings, whether we’re getting swiped into the dining halls or meeting in Westwood. Many of us regularly attend the departmental colloquia and other UCLA-hosted talks. MEETINGS Meetings are held every Tuesday at 6 pm in Dodd 399. During meetings we discuss a specific philosophical issue for about an hour and a half. Topics are chosen and presented by any club member and often explore topics not commonly covered in undergraduate courses. In the past year we discussed philosophy of science, psychology, law, and religion as well as free will, experience machines, and of course Kant. We encourage you to bring forward your own original thought as well. MEDITATIONS PHILOSOPHY JOURNAL Meditations is the undergraduate journal of philosophy at UCLA. The purpose of the journal is to foster philosophical thought and provide an opportunity for undergraduates to gain writing and publishing experience. Maybe you have a philosophy paper that you’re really proud of, or you’re looking for a platform to test your arguments and be challenged. Maybe you have some cool ideas but hate writing when a grade depends on it. We encourage undergraduates of any major to participate in Meditations. Facebook: Undergraduate Philosophy Club at UCLA
