National Alliance on Mental Illness on Campus at University of California: Los Angeles

We are UCLA’s chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. This group began in Winter 2014, but there are many other chapters of NAMI throughout the country. As our name suggests, we operate under a national umbrella, and as such, we strive to live up to our name, developing creative and interactive ways to reduce the STIGMA around mental illness. Our goal is simple. We strive to help students talk about mental health, and to promote overall mental wellness. We want to help eliminate the fear behind these issues, making the world a safer and more comfortable place for everyone. In the past, we have worked with Project WILD, the Depressed Cake Shop, Disability Rights California, and the YMCA. Past events have included volunteering with children and giving presentations on mental health. While these are some events we have participated in we do our best to reach out to the community around us and are always looking for new collaborations. As a part of NAMI, you will have access to resources and information, both for yourself, and for the people around you. You will be able to receive unconditional support, and share different ways of supporting the people in your life. Above all, you will be part of a safe and inclusive space where everyone is welcome!
