Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) at UCLA

Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) @ UCLA is a team of students working together to design, manufacture, and test an autonomous drone for competition in a mock search-and-rescue mission. Last year we competed in the annual SUAS Seafarer competition, placing 14 out of 52 teams. We are a sub-project of AIAA and encourage the collaboration of multiple engineering disciplines, including Mechanical/Aerospace, Computer Science, and Electrical. Challenges associated with this competition require members to work together on interdisciplinary engineering projects while also developing project management skills and networking with team sponsors. UCLA UAS is the answer for students seeking a hands-on project to work on at college that can integrate material taught in class with practical skills that employers are looking for in the industry. We currently have about 8 members returning from last year and are currently recruiting members for the upcoming school. We hope to eventually expand beyond the competition and serve as a club that provides resources to undergraduate students interested in drones and other autonomous aircraft.
